Girl Scout Mural Dedication Rescheduled

Mark you calendars! The date for the Girl Scout 95th Anniversary Mural, Where Girls Grow Strong, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 26th at 5:30 pm. The dedication will be held at 1422 Callowhill Street in Philadelphia where the mural is proudly displayed on the Creative Book Manufacturing Co. building owned by the Kopacz Family.

On this special date, the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, community partners and neighborhood residents will celebrate the completion of Where Girls Grow Strong. This spectacular mural commemorates the 95th Anniversary of Girl Scouts, founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912, and celebrates the extraordinary power and impact of today’s Girl Scout movement —in our region and around the world.

Over the course of fourteen paint sessions, Girl Scouts’ headquarters at Shelly Ridge in Miquon hosted "Mural Days" for Girl Scout troops from around the region. Girl Scouts painted the mural on parachute cloth and learned about the extraordinary collection of murals throughout Philadelphia’s diverse neighborhoods. The lead muralist on the project, Michelle Ortiz, incorporated designs submitted by troops throughout the region.

This wonderful addition to our City’s cultural landscape has been made possible through a generous grant from our lead corporate partner, Charming Shoppes, Inc. and the Claneil Foundation. With these sponsors and the collaborative spirit of the Kopacz family, the building owners, the Mural Arts Program and Girl Scouts have empowered our girls to discover, connect and take action. Together, we have made Philadelphia a better place to live, work and visit.

We hope you can join us to celebrate the hard work and success of these talented and dedicated young women and recognize the generous support of our community partners who have helped make Juliette Gordon Low’s legacy live on for generations to come.

A Girl Scout Mural in Philly!

Laura Maniscalco (pictured below) poses below her image now featured in a new mural commemorating the 95th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America at Broad and Callowhill Streets in Philadelphia. The mural is the result of a partnership between the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania and the Mural Arts Program, and was designed as a collaborative effort by local Girl Scout Troops in Southeastern PA, including Maniscalco. The mural was planned for dedication on July 11, but the ceremony was postponed due to weather.
